Valuing The Journey
“Intentionally small, child- centred school which offers an integrated curriculum”
Principal’s Welcome
Mawarra Independent School is a not for profit, incorporated association located in Kybong – part of the beautiful Cooloola Shire, Queensland. We are an Independent School accredited to deliver the Australian Curriculum from Foundation Year to Year 10. We are non-sectarian and are not affiliated with any other educational institution. The school is governed by a voluntary Management Committee and includes members of the school and local community working together with the principal in areas of governance and compliance.
We are an intentionally small, child-centred school which offers an integrated curriculum in a multi-age, inclusive learning environment ensuring accessibility for all children regardless of ability or cultural background.
As Principal, I take great pride in the environment in which we meet to learn at Mawarra. Our team of teachers, teacher aides and administrative staff combine to provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment for all students, guiding our next generation in how to treat others, by modelling compassion, understanding and respect for all. It is this that makes Mawarra what it is - a place where students - and staff - want to be - a place where learning is exciting and messy and fun!
We hope you enjoy this snapshot of our world.
Have a great day!

Why choose Mawarra?
At Mawarra, our points of difference define what makes our school special and guide everything we do. They highlight the unique qualities that set us apart and create an environment where students, families, and staff thrive together.
Creating a Unique Learning Environment: With 5 acres of natural grounds, including gardens and open spaces, students connect with nature as part of their learning journey through initiatives like the Living Classroom Project.
Building a Strong Community: Our Community Café and school festivals foster a warm, vibrant atmosphere where families, students, and staff come together, strengthening our sense of belonging.
Personalised Education: We take pride in knowing each child and tailoring learning to meet individual needs. With small class sizes and a high staff-to-student ratio, every student receives the attention they deserve.
Innovative Approach: At Mawarra, we do things differently. From our multi-age classrooms to our personalized learning projects (PIPs), we offer an education that adapts to each student’s interests and abilities.
Nurturing Every Child: Above all, we are committed to ensuring that every individual feels Seen, Heard, and Held. Our collaborative approach values partnerships with families, students, and staff, making learning a shared, enriching journey.
These points of difference reflect the heart of Mawarra and our mission to offer a nurturing, innovative, and community-driven educational experience
